My Story: Let me start by saying this was a very big step for me! I had never worked out in my life and I had just had weight reduction surgery and had lost over 60 pounds but I knew that I needed to do more to become healthier. Diet alone was not the only answer to continued weight loss and more importantly having more energy on a daily basis. I finally came to the conclusion that I needed to join a gym but that alone was not going to be my only answer. It would be to easy for me to make an excuse to not go so I decided to make the financial commitment and also go the route of the personal trainer. This would ensure that I start my journey to a healthier life!
I have been training now faithfully twice a week for 2 years! I also go to the gym 1-2 times a week on my own. During this time I have had 2 surgeries on my ankle and a hernia surgery! Despite these debilitating events, as soon as medically possible I was back in the gym working out with my trainer! My doctors are amazed at my transformation. Not only have I lost more weight, I no longer have asthma, high blood pressure, but I have toned my body and I am now in smaller size clothes than I was in high school! Friends and family that I haven’t seen don’t even recognize me! What is really amazing is the energy I have! Before working out, I couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded and know I can walk for miles and feel great!
I decided on going the trainer route for two major reasons. First, I was a novice when it came to a gym. I was 58 years old and was smart enough to realize that at my age I could hurt myself using the equipment if I didn’t know how to use it properly. Second, I had tried a gym that specialized in group boot camp type training and I felt lost! I was the oldest one in the class of 20 with one instructor who had no time to help the old lady who couldn’t do a push up or sit up let alone do some of the boot camp activities that they were doing. I needed something more individualized and required more basic instruction to start. My first trainer at Healthtrax was okay! He got me started and helped me begin by journey to a healthier life! My real success has been more recent! For the last 10 months I have been working with Roy! He is an amazing trainer! I have advanced more in the time I have been working with Roy since he is methodical about building my training plan! He is always prepared and works me hard but encourages me to push myself to do more! My workouts with Roy seem to fly by due to his uniquely hilarious personality! I don’t even realize that he is pushing me because we are always laughing at his jokes as I am doing things I have never done in my life! When I tell my family and friends that I can do push ups, sit ups squats and planks they are very proud of me! I have Roy to thank for my success!
There are many gyms in Glastonbury, but I decided to join Healthtrax Glastonbury because of the amenities that it had to offer. Just recently, my daughter suggested I try another gym, but my response was that I loved my trainer Roy and was very comfortable at Healthtrax. The entire staff is always courteous and encouraging as I continue my journey to a healthier life.
